Vertical control CC number:

NB Requires firmware version at least 3.1, which is installed on e-thers dispatched since late November '24 or available as an update. On e-ther 1 hardware, using the configurator will override the physical jumper on e-ther's underside and you will need to use the configurator to switch between CC numbers. To regain control using the physical jumper, clear the flash as described in the manual or use v2.2 of the firmware.

Horzontal control CC:

NB Requires firmware version at least 3.1, installed on e-thers dispatched since late November '24 or available as an update. Using this setting will prevent e-ther from working as a theremin over MIDI since there will be no pitch control. If you change this setting to anything other than the default pitch bend, then the e-ther will also be switched to 'CC mode', ie note on/off will also be suppressed. The audio signal will be unaffected and behave as usual.

Audio waveform:

NB This setting changes the audio output only, MIDI is unaffected.

Audio output level:

NB This setting changes the audio output only, MIDI is unaffected.

If, after changing these settings, things aren't right and you're not sure why, use this button to return all settings to default.

Getting started

I hate to transport us back to the '90s and say "this tool works best in..." but you may find that it works best in Chrome. It works thanks to WebMIDI.js by djip.co and we are at the mercy of the security measures of the modern OS and browser as well as your browser supporting WebMIDI.

On a Mac I don't think it will work at all in Safari. In Firefox you will need to restart the browser in order to see changes to the connection status. In Chrome it should work as expected.

Your browser may ask you to install an extension and/or approve access to MIDI. It should guide you through this.

A video showing how to use this configurator is here.

Firmware

All of the above configurations should work with any version of e-ther hardware. However, you may need up-to-date firmware.

Details and download link for any major public updates should be mailed out to e-ther owners. Feel free to email any time for a link.
