Scrutiny 9 Scanning a list of links

Starting Scrutiny on a list of links in csv, html or xml sitemap, or testing the links within a document

Opening a list of links

Scrutiny can check a list of links in a variety of formats. It can be plain text, html, csv or an xml sitemap. Note that if csv, remove other columns and the heading row (if it exists) leaving just a single column containing the links. Otherwise other data will be treated as relative links, producing lots of garbage in the results.

select File > Open...

File-Open

Scrutiny will open the 'add site' sheet, pre-completed with the file url of your list as the starting url. Give the new config a name and OK.

Alternatively you can open the dialog with the [+] button and drag your file into the empty Starting URL field, or type its url.

Adding XML sitemap for testing

Scrutiny will detect the format of the file that you open.

Also note that urls in these lists must contain the scheme, ie http:// or https://

Testing the links within a document (.pdf or .docx)

The procedure for opening the document as a starting url is the same as given above for text or csv files. Scrutiny should detect the .pdf or .docx file extension and automatically set the option within Settings and Options > Options to "check links within .docx documents" or "check links within .docx documents" as appropriate. If you get no results, it's worth going into the Options tab and checking that the appropriate box is checked.

The ability to parse a .docx file is a recent addition, please make sure that you're using a version above 9.9.0
